Loveland, CO|Ron White brings blue-collar comedy to Loveland
The Navy, potato salad and a pickup truck helped launch the career of comedian Ron White.
Later on, a cigar and glass of Scotch became stage props for his successful and outrageously funny tours bearing such irreverent titles as “Drunk in Public, “They Call Me Tater Salad” and “Busted in Des Moines.”
Add in an album called “You Can’t Fix Stupid,” plus a major spot with Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and Larry the Cable Guy on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, and you have a portrait of a guy who can grab an audience with a laid-back telling of his drinking, brushes with the law and hilarious adventures while crisscrossing the country.
Born and raised in Texas, White did a stint in the Navy. His love of potato salad sparked his “Tater Salad” nickname — one that later morphed into a “Tater Tot” moniker for his son. Following his Navy days, White drove an old Nissan truck across Texas, stopping at any comedy club that would welcome his blunt style of being funny.
Although he was a successful member of the popular Blue Collar Comedy Tour for three years, when the tour ended in 2003, White headed out on his own, choosing not to be part of the Blue Collar cable television series. He joked that he didn’t have the work ethic for a TV show, even though he made numerous guest appearances.
Many of White’s exploits are detailed in his book, “I Had the Right to Remain Silent, But I Didn’t Have the Ability,” which was published in 2006 and made the New York Times best seller list. His one-hour special, “You Can’t Fix Stupid,” filmed in 2006, garnered the third largest audience in Comedy Central history, was the No. 1 show in prime time on basic cable and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
